in Zimbabwe as part of her water and sanitation project.
With the assistance of V&W Engineering, which makes, repairs and recycles borehole pumps, Malaika will be able to fulfil her promise of providing clean water to various communities.
“As Miss Zimbabwe my main objective is to serve the nation and its people; to be the voice of the voiceless,” she said.
Malaika said water and sanitation had hindered the Government’s health projects and this had negatively affected some sectors of the economy like tourism.
“There was a decline in tourist arrivals during the cholera outbreak in 2008,” she said.
The persistent water woes in Zimbabwe also encouraged Malaika to improve sanitation and now she has sets her sights on seeing the rehabilitation and drilling of boreholes throughout the country.
Though she has not yet decided on the beneficiaries of the donation, she said this would be an ongoing programme that would see her working with various stakeholders in improving the lives of the less privileged.
Nima Solanki, marketing manager of V&W Engineering, said the gesture was meant to give back to the community.
“Sanitation plays a pivotal role in people’s life, hence the need to prioritise it,” she said.
V&W Engineering is also involved in general engineering and counts the Government, private sector and non-governmental organisations among its clients.
