THE Communications League of Zimbabwe will cap the season with a Unity Day Top Four Cup Challenge at FBC OH Sports Club today.
The Communications League is probably the best and most organised social league in the country.
It was established in 1999 and comprises 16 teams. The top four teams taking part in today’s tournament are Tendo, Willdale, Dairibord and Dandaro.
The tournament is being sponsored by Mega Chemicals, New Hope, Mekatol Investments, MDECON Legends, Fan Traker and Mega Tissues.
The league’s secretary general, Wallesa Nyawo, said their priority is to unite people through social football.
He insisted that the tournament will also help to settle the debate about the league’s best team.
“The competition is an opportunity for networking and socialising.
“It also helps to give a chance to any team that might believe that it deserved to be the champion by beating the best of the best,” said Nyawo.
“And the tournament even presents a chance for the league’s players to be scouted by PSL coaches who will be in attendance.
“We have seen many players from this league making a breakthrough to play in the PSL and Division One.”
He said they expect to grow their partnership with sponsorship brands that have supported them all season.
“We are hoping that more can join to help us make this project more interesting.
“Our league has become competitive to the extent that we have coaches who hold Level 1 and 2 badges.”
The league has also attracted former PSL players like Pride Tafirenyika, Manuel Meleka, Pedzi Gumiremhete, Oscar Machapa, Innocent Kambanje, Prince Mutasa, Lincoln Saramayi, Nathan Mangisi, Norest Mkwezaramba and Abel Gwatidzo.
He also confirmed that they are planning a grand celebration of their silver jubilee in 2024.
