BORDER Strikers were handed a Premiership slot on a silver platter on Sunday when Sable Chemicals failed to fulfil the fixture scheduled for Dulibadzimu in Beitbridge. Border Strikers were handed victory on a 3-0 scoreline and this took their tally to 60 points as they sealed their place into the top-flight league.

They now lead second placed Tongogara by 12 points and, with just three rounds of games to play, the contest is over.

Coach Never Malunga, who guided the club into the Premiership, paid tribute to the executive, the players and the community for the unity of purpose exhibited during their adventure.

“It was only a matter of time and I am happy that we have managed to be promoted which is good for the people of Beitbridge who rallied behind us,” said Malunga.

“We had some of the biggest crowds in the league this season and promotion is the beginning of bigger things to come.

“I also want to thank the players for having the right attitude and also the executive who supported us with the resources all the way.

“As an institution, I am humbled by the unity of purpose and the results are testimony of that.”

Border Strikers chairman, Jabulani Ndou, believes the team will make a difference in the top-flight league.

“We are in the league to stay because we are a community team.

“Unlike the previous teams which were individually-owned and failed to last the distance, we are a community team and the business community is very much supportive to this cause,” said Ndou.

“We are going to beef up the side and make sure that Premiership football is guaranteed for the people of Beitbridge.”
