THE talented dance group affectionately known as Shining Stars are leaving fans drooling for more when performing their sizzling theatrical well choreographed kwaito dance routines in Harare.
Shining Stars consists of four members —Kudakwashe Tirivanhu, Gugulethu Nyathi, Sydney Sithole and Physiology Sibanda.
The young lads are may be newest underdogs in a competitive kwaito dance industry but they are definitely a force to reckon in the kwaito dance industry.
The group has performwd in various pleasure places such as City Sports Bar, Players Bar, Mangenje Nightclub and Nyaguwa Nightclub among others, where they have showcased their 26 fascinating dance routines.
“Dancing is our God-given talent and our passion,” said Nyathi.
The group is on offshoot of the then Bulawayo-based Public Enemies, a group that consisted of both boys and girls.
“Girls were always a target in most of the clubs, pubs and venues we performed and we could do very little to protect them from men that were always going after them.
“Although we had good relations with our fellow female group members at Public Enemies we feared that some of them got pregnant it could ruin our reputation as a group that is why we left,” said Ndlovu.
These young energetic lads live together under one roof in a house they rent in Budiriro.
“Living together has made us to bond more as we now consider each other as a family.
“Staying under one roof has improved both our professional and social relationships making it easier for us to divide time for rehearsals and household chores,” said Sibanda.
Shining Stars said their favourite dish was sadza and beef although they enjoyed other delicacies such as rice, spaghetti and macaroni.
The group rehearses together and they take turns to teach each other new dance moves each member comes up with.
Tirivanhu could not hide his passion for dancing kwaito: “I was borne to dance kwaito, I feel more alive when my colleagues and I are on the dance floor and the crowds with the fans cheering us as we perform some of our routines,” he said.
The lads argue that they are the best sitting on top of the rest when it comes to kwaito dancing routines.
“From the Zambezi to the Limpopo there is now one who can perform kwaito routines like us,” boasted Sibanda.
“We came to Harare in search of greener pastures and to prove a point that some groups spreading rumours that there the best kwaito dance groups are not.
“Some of these kwaito dance groups based in Harare mimic dance moves they see being performed by little-known groups based in Bulawayo,” said Tirivanhu.
Shining Stars blamed lack of proper management and exposure for their limited stage performances.
The lads believe it is a matter of time before they dance their way to fame and success.
