A 67-year-old Borrowdale man lost more than US$72 000 to armed robbers on Monday.

Roger Lovatt of Ballentine Park and his family were tortured by three armed men who found them watching TV in their lounge at around 7.45pm.

They saw three men wearing balaclavas walking into the house.

One was holding a bolt cutter, the other a knobkerrie and the other one a shifting spanner.

They demanded money from the family, and tied their legs separately. They took Roger and his wife to the bedroom and ransacked the room.

They found a suitcase which contained US$72 220, took it and locked the two in the bedroom.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said investigations are underway.
