A Borrowdale Post Office  manager has appeared in court on charges of theft of trust property amounting to $12 984 053.

Tatenda Ngara appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, who remanded him in custody to September 6.

The State, led by Anesu Chirenje, alleges that sometime between May   and August, Ngara was entrusted with collecting revenue from the purchase of vehicle, and radio licences, by various clients at the Post Office Borrowdale branch.

It is said Ngara abused the trust, bestowed in him, by converting $12 984 053 he collected, to his personal use.

The offence was discovered when the Post Office instituted an audit.

The reconciliation on the daily sales sheet posted by Ngara unearthed the discrepancies.
