CIVIC society organisation, Hope Worldwide Zimbabwe, has promised to continue empowering young people in the drive to eradicate drug abuse.
In an interview with H-Metro, Hope Worldwide Zimbabwe programmes coordinator, Tapiwa Chiwetu, said they have set up five stations in Mufakose for community development.
“We hold programmes where we help raise awareness in the community on drug abuse. We launched an anti-drug and substance abuse on July 2 after realising that some children have been sniffing jolly juice,” she said.
“Our organisation has helped two children that were drug addicts and they’re now clean. We hope to reach out to many people and change more lives,” she said.
However, Chiwetu said the main obstacle they face in their work is financial.
“Since it is a non-profit organisation, we sometimes struggle to raise funds to carry out different activities. We are always looking for funding and donations.”
She said they had also started programmes that help empower women facing gender-based violence.
“We do not condone GBV, hence we provide women with short courses in baking, cooking and gardening so that they make their own money.
“At the moment, we have 200 beneficiaries and we hope to expand to all provinces,” she said.
