FORMER Highlanders teenage striker Thomas Chideu was sold to South African Premiership side Ajax Cape Town for $40,000. Highlanders’ chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede could not be reached for comment while Ajax’s media liaison Julian Bailey would not divulge the actual figure.

“We are not in a position to reveal how much was paid for the player you are mentioning, it’s confidential information between the parties involved,” said Bailey.

However, sources close to the three parties confirmed that the 19-year-old Young Warriors striker who played less than 10 official matches for the Bulawayo giants, went for an asking price of $40,000.

The figure was initially $30,000 but Bosso demanded $10,000 more, which the Cape Town side agreed.

“That figure has not reflected on the Highlanders’ accounts as yet because of the latest transfer matching system requirements, but $40,000 was the asking price which Ajax agreed to, but as you know, there are other costs involved which will leave Highlanders with slightly over $30,000,” said the source.

Some of the costs include intermediaries’ fees as well as 10 percent for the player. Intermediaries’ fees are not supposed to be more than three percent of the gross selling price, if all conditions are met.

Bailey also revealed that Chideu had not yet secured a clearance to play in the South African Premiership.

The delay in getting the clearance is probably due to the requirements of the transfer matching system, which requires that all parties input correct and identical information to the Fifa approved system like the issue of how much the player was sold for.

The two clubs have to provide all the required information supported by documents to Fifa.

In the past, once a deal was agreed, obtaining an international transfer certificate could take days and sometimes weeks, but Fifa said that if all parties are organised, it could take between seven and 10 minutes.
