Bosso bait Benjani . . . cobble role for the Undertaker

Bosso are preparing a bold new leadership structure, with Benjani Mwaruwari taking the reins as technical director and Thabo Senong appointed as head coach.

The club has deliberately delayed the announcement to ensure that the two can build a productive working relationship that could reshape the team’s fortunes.

A meeting between the two is reportedly being arranged, and the final announcement will follow once both parties have aligned on their working dynamics.

Senong (45) brings a wealth of coaching experience to Highlanders.

Thabo Senong

The South African has previously managed the Tanzanian side Singida Fountain Gate, the Orlando Pirates Developmental team, the South African U-20 national team and most recently, the Lesotho national team.

His reputation for youth development and tactical discipline is expected to complement Mwaruwari’s experience and insight into Zimbabwean football.

Highlanders are simultaneously restructuring their current technical setup.

Assistant coaches Try Ncube and Agent Sawu have been informed that they will not be part of the technical team next season.

The club, however, is in discussions with both coaches, who still have running contracts, to ensure a smooth transition.

A source within the club revealed that the incoming coaching team will include Senong’s preferred assistant coach and an analyst, while a local coach will assume the role of second assistant coach.

“The club is certainly going for a former player as part of the technical team,” said the source, hinting at a mix of local knowledge and international expertise in the new setup.

The move represents a shift in the club’s approach to leadership.

Initially, club benefactor Wicknell Chivayo had proposed that Mwaruwari take over as head coach, even pledging to pay his wages.

However, Highlanders’ board reportedly rejected this idea, instead opting to appoint Mwaruwari as technical director while retaining the authority to select a head coach independently.

Mwaruwari’s coaching experience is relatively limited.

His only stint in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League lasted six months in 2022, when he was sacked by Ngezi Platinum.

Nevertheless, his stature as a former international star and deep understanding of Zimbabwean football are seen as assets in his new role.
