TENSIONS boiled over at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday as a section of Highlanders fans calling themselves Bosso Ultras staged a mini-protest during the team’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash against Green Fuel.
The visibly frustrated group took matters into their own hands, parading a banner around the stadium before mounting it on the Soweto End goalpost, loudly calling for sweeping leadership changes at the Bulawayo giants.

“New executive, new board members, no to misuse of Bosso funds. Sikhathele ngamasela,” the banner read, a direct accusation of mismanagement and alleged financial abuse by the club’s current leadership.
One of the women who carried the banner was quickly identified by fans as a close relative of 2024 Bosso chairmanship candidate Nodumo Nyathi, fuelling speculation that the protest could have been politically motivated and possibly orchestrated by Nyathi’s camp.

However, when reached for comment, Nyathi flatly denied any involvement, saying he had no hand in the protest or banner funding.
“Mina? Bayangihlolela. I stood against the official vote of no confidence against Johnfat [Sibanda] and his team and you think I can sponsor such things? I’m not sure why people would try to paint me this bad. I thought elections adlula. Do they still feel good ukungingcolisa on lies? For what gain?” said Nyathi.

The protest, though small in numbers, marked a growing wave of dissatisfaction among Bosso faithful, with mounting pressure for accountability and transparency from both the executive committee and the board.
It remains to be seen if this was a one-off act of fan frustration or the start of a larger, more organised push to shake up the leadership of one of Zimbabwe’s most storied football clubs.
