HIGHLANDERS’ centenary season now carries real pressure after businessman Wicknell Chivayo delivered another major show of backing, handing over vehicles to senior officials and confirming the release of the remaining US$500 000 from last year’s US$1 million pledge.

The gesture comes weeks before the new campaign and sharpens focus on what Bosso must produce on the pitch after years of frustration among supporters desperate to see the club return to the top.

Head coach Benjani Mwaruwari received a 2026 Ford Everest 3.0D Limited Edition valued at about US$92 000. Board chairman Luke Mnkandla took delivery of a Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GD6 worth around US$80 500. Chief executive officer Denzil Mnkandla and Highlanders legend Madinda Ndlovu each received Toyota Fortuner 2.4GD6 vehicles valued at about US$72 500. Each recipient also received a US$10 000 allowance. The scale of the support underlines the level of investment now behind the Bulawayo giants as they prepare for a season supporters hope will signal a genuine revival.

Highlanders have not won the league title in nearly two decades and recent campaigns have been defined by inconsistency, making this latest injection a defining moment in the club’s rebuild.

Speaking at the handover, Luke Mnkandla said the backing arrives at a critical time as the club rolls out its centenary programme while strengthening its football operations.

“This gesture is a big motivation for us all and comes after successive support both financially and in kind. With this backing, we believe we can improve the welfare of players and management as we position Bosso to reclaim its place in the league and in the hearts of supporters,” he said.

He said the vehicles will help the club improve its day to day operations during a demanding year on and off the field.

“It comes at an important moment as we roll out activities to mark our centenary. This support will enhance our ability to carry out our duties effectively and we are sincerely grateful,” he said.

The latest donation adds to Chivayo’s growing footprint in local football and strengthens Highlanders’ preparations for the new season. For supporters, the message is clear. The club now has stronger financial backing than in recent years and expectations will rise accordingly. With the centenary celebrations approaching and the new campaign around the corner, the spotlight now falls firmly on Benjani and his squad to turn renewed belief into results.
