HIGHLANDERS Football Club have been plunged into yet another administrative crisis after chief executive officer Denzel Mnkandla wrote to club chairman, Kenneth Mhlophe, declaring financial incapacitation.

The Bosso CEO said he is now unable to report for duty, citing three months of unpaid salary arrears.

In the letter addressed to Mhlophe and dated June 29, Mnkandla said he could no longer continue reporting for work as he was no longer financially able to discharge his duties after going unpaid since March.

“I write this letter with a heavy heart after giving careful consideration to my present circumstances. As you are aware, I have continued to discharge my duties with utmost commitment and loyalty despite the Club’s prolonged financial challenges,” wrote Mnkandla.

“However, I have now reached a point where I am no longer able to continue reporting for duty owing to the continued non-payment of my salary, which has remained outstanding since March 2026.”

He said the prolonged non-payment had left him financially incapacitated, making it impossible to meet basic obligations such as transport, accommodation food and other essential living expenses.

“Consequently, I am unable to continue rendering my services effectively,” he said.

Mnkandla stressed that his decision should not be interpreted as a resignation or abandonment of his responsibilities.

“This communication should therefore not be construed as a resignation from my employment or an abandonment of my duties. Rather, it serves as formal notice that, as matters presently stand, I am financially incapacitated from continuing to perform my contractual obligations due to the Club’s failure to fulfil its corresponding obligation to remunerate me,” he wrote.

Despite the situation, Mnkandla reaffirmed his commitment to the Bulawayo football giants, expressing hope that the impasse would be resolved urgently.

“I remain committed to the Club and sincerely hope that this unfortunate situation can be resolved as a matter of urgency. Upon payment of the outstanding salary arrears, or upon reaching a mutually acceptable arrangement regarding the same, I shall gladly resume my duties.”

He also appealed to the club to urgently address the matter, saying he remained available to engage management in finding an amicable resolution.

According to sources, the club stopped the CEO’s salary in March after he was suspended for allegedly being involved in the Botswana trip in which the club felt they were overcharged.

However, when the suspension was lifted, the salary was not reinstated leading to Mnkandla going for months without a salary.

On Thursday morning a source revealed there was no club resolution not to pay the chief executive.

Despite the club last month taking a position which is minuted to pay Mnkandla what he is owed after the Dynamos match, Mnkandla did not receive his pay.

Efforts to get a comment from the under pressure Bosso chairman were fruitless as he did not pick up calls and on his WhatsApp as has become his habit.
