Bosso CEO on ‘forced’ leave

HIGHLANDERS’ chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube has been sent on “forced” leave three months before his contract with the Bulawayo giants expires.

The firebrand Dube was hired to head the club’s secretariat in May 2017, replacing veteran administrator Ndumiso Gumede, who is now the Bosso president.

Dube was initially given a two-year contract, which expired in April 2019, causing friction in the Bosso executive resulting in the suspension of vice-chairman Modern Ngwenya and then secretary Israel Moyo for refusing to extend his deal.

“He has taken leave of absence from office. He had stayed for too long without going on leave and will be away for the next three months. It wasn’t an easy decision for him to go on leave, but the executive insisted he does,” said a club insider.

The source further revealed that the former club secretary had accumulated a lot of days, which he wanted to encash.

“He initially wasn’t willing to go on leave arguing that he was willing to encash his days, but the executive refused,” said the source.

Club spokesperson Ronald Moyo initially promised to issue a statement yesterday explaining club’s position, but later backtracked.

Moyo is expected to hold fort as acting chief executive officer during Dube’s absence. Highlanders’ chairman Johnfat Sibanda wasn’t forthcoming on the Dube issue.

“I don’t see any news in all this. Why should a statement be released when an employee has decided to take leave? Do you guys do the same at the Chronicle if you are going on leave?” said Sibanda.
