THE incoming Highlanders Chief Executive Officer (CEO) must not sit on his laurels and simply expect to smile all the way to the bank for a salary at the end of each month.
Instead, he will be tasked with running the operations of the club and most importantly, bring in the much needed revenue and source his monthly salary as the Bulawayo giants have made it clear they do not have the funds to pay a CEO.
BancABC, the cluba��s principal sponsors, announced a reduced sponsorship package valued at $200 000 for the 2017 season. The cash injection will cater for the players and technical team membersa�� salaries, leaving the CEO to find means to pay himself.
a�?Ita��s important to note that we expect the new CEO to generate business for the club as well as source funds to pay himself. The CEO should add value to the club and not just join Highlanders to earn a salary,a�? said acting chairman Modern Ngwenya.
He said the decision was reached as part of recommendations by club members in trying to find ways to keep the club afloat in the face of a mounting debt which has reached the $800 000 mark.
The head of the Highlanders secretariat should be in office by the end of March.
Former CEO Ndumiso Gumede was in November suspended by Zifa from all football activities. His contract expired last month and he subsequently retired from football.
In hiring a new CEO, the Highlanders executive will have to recommend their preferred candidate to the board which can either reject or endorse the candidate. The cluba��s human resources committee comprising members of the board and executive will then deal with contractual issues.
Nhlanhla Dube, an internationally qualified sport administrator in the country, has been tipped to lead the Bosso secretariat.
Brian Moyo, a former Highlanders administrator and Zifa education officer as well as Nkululeko Ndlovu have also been tipped to throw their names into the hat for the job. .
