As Highlanders FC struggle to keep afloat in the face of a mounting debt, club executives are not leading by example in paying $20 monthly contributions meant to alleviate the cluba��s financial woes, B-Metro has learnt.
It has become club policy that life members must contribute $20 each every month but their response has been discouraging.
The club has over 2 000 life members. If the estimated lot pay up monthly the club could raise $40 000 monthly.
But if those in administration roles at the club dona��t pay up, what about the rest?
According to a communiquA� that was recently sent out to club members, only one executive member a�� Modern Ngwenya a�� made his August payment.
The few notable names that paid up are three board members a�� Davies Sibanda, Thomas Ngwenya and Mathew Sibindi a�� long time club benefactor Kenneth Mhlophe, CEO Ndumiso Gumede, Sicelo Dube, Solwayo Ngwenya, Morgan Dube and Knowledge Ncube.
This makes the August payments amount to a paltry $240 raised from 12 members that paid.
a�?People always say Highlanders belongs to them and we have heard that song for some time. Highlanders followers should consider supporting the club because our overheads are too much,a�? said Gumede.
Gumede pleaded that any amount that supporters could raise was welcome.
a�?There are many monetary requirements that the club has to meet and we are asking those that claim the club is theirs to contribute even $5 or less per month. Umfula ugcwaliswa ngezifudlana (tributaries fill up a river),a�? he added.
In July, only 20 life members made their contributions and for the month of September, Gumede said, by Tuesday only eight members had made contributions.
The Highlanders debt stands at $765 060,36 as of 31 July 2016. Trade creditors are owed $23 500. Trade creditors are suppliers that send a business goods, or supply it with services, but have not been paid.
A total of $335 651,65 is listed on the debt list as accruals which refer to revenue that has been earned but is not yet recorded in the Bosso accounts.
Sundry creditors a�� persons who supply goods or services to a business firm on credit basis a�� are owed $197 281,88.
A total of $114 371,37 is owed to statutory obligations which are defined as obligations that do not arise out of a contract, but are imposed by law. In this case it could refer to payments to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority.
There are also individuals such as former coaches Madinda Ndlovu and Rahman Gumbo as well as former players Graham Ncube and Mthulisi Maphosa among others who are also owed money by Highlanders.
Their dues are listed under the net pay or outstanding salaries section of the debt and amount to $74 200.
There are also short term loans amounting to $15 214,66.
