NEWLY revived Highlanders netball team take on struggling TelOne in the Zimbabwe Netball Association Bulawayo Province League at Belmont tomorrow afternoon.
Highlanders were officially launched at a colourful event on Africa Day have had a fairytale run winning the two games they have played so far, while their opponents tomorrow are yet to register a win in two matches.
“We are not undermining them, but to us it’s really one of those games where we just have to pick up maximum points,” said Highlanders’ chairperson Sekani Dube.
The Bosso ladies will look to imposing former Hwange High schoolgirl Zanele Mazaiwana, who proved that she must be paired with a physically strong opponent during the launch.
“Our loss to ZRP Bulawayo during the final on launch day was largely attributed to combinations as our players are yet to understand each other’s play and positions, but we are slowly getting there,” said Dube.
TelOne have conceded 169 goals in the two matches they have played while scoring 21, which is the worst in the league.
Highlanders also need to improve on their scoring prowess as well as in defence.
The game of the week though is likely to feature Delta Sparrows and on-fire ZPC Hwange, who are also yet to drop points. The Hwange-based ladies lie second on the league table behind ZRP Bulawayo.
The police outfit is at home to Lupane State University tomorrow.
Free Stars, made up of largely Under-20 girls, take on Khami Queens.
“It will be an interesting game if it takes place, especially with Khami Queens likely to be a new-look side,” said Lisa Mangena of Free Stars.
