RUMOURS surrounding the departure of Highlanders’ defender Peter Muduhwa and striker Lynoth Chikuhwa have intensified, despite coach Kelvin Kaindu’s insistence that no one has left the club yet.

Muduhwa’s emotional farewell to fans on Sunday, following the team’s 1-1 draw against Yadah Stars, has sparked speculation that he is leaving the club.

The defender was joined in his lap of honour by aging teammate Ariel Sibanda, whose future at the club also remains uncertain.
Sibanda has previously said that he would make a decision on his future at the end of the season, fuelling speculation that this could be his last season at Bosso.

Kaindu played down the rumours, saying: “As things stand, no one has left; everybody is still part of the team. We can’t take away the rumours doing the rounds. If there are rumours, you have to start planning ahead.”

However, sources indicate that Muduhwa and Chikuhwa have already sealed their moves to newly promoted Northern Region Division One side, Scottland FC.

The duo will join a host of other top-flight players, including Denver Mukamba, King Nadolo, Cleopas Dube and former Highlanders teammate, McClive Phiri.

Scottland FC’s aggressive recruitment drive, backed by gold mining interests, has sent shockwaves through the Zimbabwean football fraternity. The club’s ambitions appear to be taking shape, with Muduhwa and Chikuhwa reportedly on board.

Highlanders’ loss could be Scottland FC’s gain, as the newly promoted side seeks to make an immediate impact in the top-flight league.

Chikuhwa who finished the season as the leading scorer with 17 goals has placed his name among the favourites to make it into the top three of the Soccer Star of the Year calendar.
A panel of journalists, club coaches and captains will soon vote for the 11 best players of the season.

History-making Simba Bhora, who were crowned champions, are expected to dominate the selection, providing at least three players. Their back-three of Blessing “Bisto” Moyo, Webster Tafa and Isheanesu Mauchi were instrumental in their title-winning campaign.

Other contenders for the calendar include Dynamos’ vice-captain Emmanuel Jalai, FC Platinum’s Brian Banda and ZPC Kariba’s Boid Mutukure. Juan Mutudza (FC Platinum), Farai Banda (Manica Diamonds), Godknows Murwira and Kingsley Mureremba (Caps United) have also had impressive campaigns.
