A FIGHT for starting places has ensued at Highlanders ahead of their epic tie against CAPS United at the giant National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Bosso are coming from identical 2-1 to back to back home wins against wins over relegation threatened Yadah FC at Barbourfields. The Bulawayo giants first baptised the Prophet Walter Magaya’s side 2-1 in a Chibuku Super Cup first round tie last Sunday before posting another victory in a midweek fixture at Emagumeni on Wednesday courtesy of goals by Newman Sianchali and red-hot Denzel Khumalo.
The last encounter saw Highlanders field players that had been starved of game time and the club’s technical manager was happy that his charges never failed him.
“Against Yadah FC, we gave some of our players the much needed game time and they did well. We didn’t field the usual line-up but after this it means the players are going to compete for starting places against CAPS United,” said Highlanders technical manager Madinda Ndlovu.
Bosso will go into the Battle of the Cities Part Two banking on in-form Khumalo, whose ball wizardry and artistry in the middle of the park has won the hearts of many.
Khumalo, a midfield genius who is endowed with good ball control and visionary play, scored a gem of a goal on Wednesday.
He has been top of his game together with the club’s vice captain Gabriel Nyoni, Sianchali, evergreen defender Peter Mudhuwa and unheralded Mbongeni “Fazo” Ndlovu among others.
In other Week 29 fixtures, bruised log leaders FC Platinum will play host to fading giants Dynamos at Mandava Stadium.
FC Platinum are smarting from a 3-1 away loss at the hands of Triangle. DeMbare, who have continuously fired blanks, were held to a nil all draw by newbies Bulawayo Chiefs, a development that saw them sink deeper into relegation zone.
Following their 2-0 triumph over Chapungu, Innocent Muchaneka-inspired Chicken Inn will do battle against Harare City at Rufaro Stadium.
Struggling Bulawayo City welcome second placed Ngezi Platinum Stars at Barbourfields Stadium.
Tied on 31 points with Dynamos and Yadah, Bulawayo Chiefs will hope to get a positive result against Nichrut in a match that is set for Luveve Stadium on Sunday.
On Monday, Yadah FC entertain ZPC Kariba at Rufaro Stadium.
