HIGHLANDERS have set the wheels in motion for what promises to be one of the most significant milestones in their storied history, the club’s 100th anniversary in 2026.

The Bulawayo giants are already preparing to celebrate a century of football excellence, pride and community spirit. Bosso are determined to make the centenary a memorable event that will remain etched in the minds of many for years to come.

Highlanders have officially begun preparations for their centenary celebrations with the announcement of a committee that will oversee the organisation of various events leading up to the milestone.

Bosso board chairman Luke Mnkandla said the club was excited to finally begin the  journey towards marking its 100th year.

“Highlanders is turning 100 next year. We have set up a committee and sub-committees and also laid down the activities.

“We are hoping that within a few months we will hold the official launch of the celebrations. It is a real milestone and we want to do it in a big way.”

Highlanders CEO Denzil Mnkandla said the club had drawn together a wide range of individuals to ensure the celebrations reflect both the team’s heritage and its community roots.

“We are planning several events to take place throughout the year to mark this milestone. When forming the committees, we considered individual strengths and influence across Bulawayo’s communities.

“It’s about bringing everyone together, not just Highlanders supporters. We are inviting everyone to be part of celebrating this achievement.”

Turning 100 years should also be a moment of introspection and forward planning for the club.

With its vast fan base, Highlanders should no longer be seen as a team constantly seeking handouts or accepting token sponsorships even from competitors. The brand has long been undervalued, and strong leadership is now needed to elevate it to the next level. From its founding in 1926 by Albert and Rhodes Khumalo, grandsons of King Lobengula, Highlanders has stood as a proud symbol of culture, unity and identity. As the club approaches its 100-year anniversary, a new chapter is being written in black and white.
