Sibanda is favourite to take over as treasurer when elections for the post are conducted next February.
Daniel Ngwenya who coaches the Under-14s, former player Gift Lunga who heads the Under-16s, former committee member Siphatho Ncube, the Under-18s coach and the Division Two side coach Mark Mathe, formerly with Chicken Inn, will know their fate probably in the New Year.
There are concerns though that the juniors did not do well in the past season.
Rubbishing speculation that erupted during the former Highlanders players tournament at the clubhouse last Sunday, that a new manager has already been appointed, replacing Soma-Phiri, an emotional Highlanders chairman Peter Dube said he was tired of unsubstantiated rumours.
“Who is spreading these rumours in the first instance? For the record we have not appointed anyone as we have been involved in many things to do with the club. We are going to meet as an executive and review the past season and then we can attend to that but as of now it’s business as usual at the club,” said Dube.
He said the executive was aware of the expiry of contracts and the coaches themselves are also aware of that position hence it should not be a surprise to anyone.
“I have been out of town so we have not even come up with a date for our meeting so that we discuss that issue,” said the Highlanders chairman.
Speculation has been rife and reached fever pitch last Sunday that indeed, Soma-Phiri was on his way out of the club and names like Willard Khumalo, Mkhuphali Masuku, Tobias Mudyambanje, Tito Paketh and Dumisani Nyoni have been suggested as possible replacements.
While the executive might not have taken any decision on the future of their first team manager, sources told this publication that chances of him surviving were very slim as the club seems to have adopted a policy of rotating the manager’s post among its former players, regardless of one’s performance.
