HIGHLANDERS midfielder, Honest Mhlanga reflects on his debut season, citing significant growth and promise for the future.
Mhlanga (25), promoted from the developmental side at the beginning of the year, has made impactful cameo appearances and in the process sharpened his skills.
He may not have had as many appearances as he may have hoped for this season, but to him, it has been a big learning curve.
“This season has been both challenging and rewarding. I have grown significantly in understanding the game and learning from my teammates and coaches. My focus has been on giving my best with each passing match,” Mhlanga said.
Mhlanga also shared that he preferred playing as a central midfielder.
“Midfield is my favourite position, linking defence and attack. Facing Yadah FC’s skilled midfield has so far been my toughest assignment this season but it challenged me to improve,” he said.
Mhlanga started playing football at a young age, progressing with a number of local clubs before joining Highlanders FC.

He has previously turned out for Tigers in the juniors league as well as Ratanang, now Nkayi United, in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League.
“I set small goals per game, review footage and discuss with coaches how to improve. My analytical approach and educational background give me an edge in adapting to different styles,” Mhlanga said.
Mhlanga recalls his Highlanders debut in a game against Bulawayo Chiefs.
“Stepping into the field felt exhilarating and humbling. The energy from fans and the weight of the Bosso jersey pushed me to give everything. I was focused and determined to make my mark,” he said.
With his unique talent and strategic approach, Mhlanga is poised for a breakthrough season next year. —@innocentskizoe
