Bosso have been thrown into the harsh spotlight as shocking salary disparities tear through the club ahead of a massive 2026 squad overhaul.
From development boys pocketing US$600 to a senior player who helped save Bosso earning a measly US$325, the wage war has exploded into a full blown scandal that supporters say exposes deep cracks in the club’s structures.

The club’s US$72 000 wage bill for 42 players is already bleeding, with sponsors covering only US$41 000. That leaves a painful US$31 000 gap Bosso must hustle for every month just to stay afloat. Fans are now asking how such a huge bill produces so little impact on the pitch.

Chief executive Denzil Mnkandla tried to calm the storm. He insisted the club’s “contract upgrade processes and gradings are in place.” But his calm tone did nothing to explain why the senior player at the centre of the uproar has been stuck on the same US$325 salary since 2023.
Earlier this year Zimpapers Sports Hub uncovered another eyebrow raising case involving Simba Madzivire, who bagged a residential stand as his signing on fee despite not being good enough for the first team. The revelation reignited long standing fears that Bosso’s recruitment is wobbling and the development structures are on life support. In six long years only Andrew Mbeba has broken through from Bosso 90 to the senior team.

That gap has shown its teeth. Bosso survived relegation by the skin of their teeth, a sign that the quality pipeline is running dry. Mnkandla insisted, “These processes remain in place going into the coming season, including how players are recruited, retained and released.”
Now the club must decide the fate of several players sitting on running contracts but no longer fitting into the long-term vision. Some fans fear Bosso will carry dead weight into the centenary year if the sweeping rebuild does not cut deep enough.
The coaching puzzle is still a hot potato. Said Mnkandla, “The club has a committee that sits to discuss coaching and technical appointments which are underway. Once the club concludes such processes, official channels will be used to communicate a position.” Bosso recently parted ways with Pieter de Jongh who helped save the club from relegation. He joins a long list of coaches who have failed to spark a revival since 2019.

Tension rose further on Monday after Highlanders rejected a flashy offer from sponsor Wicknell Chivayo. He wanted Benjani Mwaruwari installed as head coach with all expenses covered plus a million dollar boost to transform the club.
The bombshell refusal has left supporters guessing whether Bosso is protecting its traditions or turning away a golden lifeline. As the 100 year milestone approaches in 2026, all eyes are on Bosso’s next move. The wage war, shaky recruitment, coaching uncertainty and financial holes have created the biggest storm the club has faced in years.
Whether Highlanders rise or crumble will depend on how boldly they clean up the chaos now spilling into the open.
