admin2012 Olympics 800 metres silver medalist Nijel Amos of Botswana will likely miss the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, after he was provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
Amos was found to have metabolites of GW1516 following an out-of-competition test last month. GW1516 is a banned substance the AIU says modifies “how the body metabolizes fat”.
“GW1516 is not an approved substance for human use and WADA has advised of its health risks for athletes,” the AIU said in a statement.
The AIU added that Amos, who is already in the U.S. preparing for the championships, was notified of the findings and his suspension.
Amos was scheduled to participate in the 800m heats on July 20.
28-year-old Amos made history in London a decade ago when he won his country’s first-ever Olympic medal, adding a bronze in the 4x400m relay at last year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. – CGTN.
