THE Botswana national Under-15 soccer team is set to tour Bulawayo for international friendly matches against local clubs from April 12 to 15.
Zifa Bulawayo Province board member Mkhululi Mthunzi confirmed yesterday that the Young Zebras will play against Under-15 champions Highlanders, runners-up Bantu Rovers and Bulawayo Select.
Mthunzi said the Botswana Football Association sent a request to the Zifa Bulawayo Province requesting to play international friendly matches next week.
He said they have forwarded the proposal to the head office in Harare for the clearance letter so that matches can take place between the proposed dates.
“If things go according to plan we expect Botswana here next week. We are waiting for head office clearance since now whenever there is an international friendly we have to first clear them with Harare after the famous Asiagate scandal,” said Mthunzi.
Mthunzi said the provincial teams are in place, what is left is the appointment of the coaches who will do the final assessment.
“The list of the coaches will be availed today, but the teams are ready. We will have two Bulawayo Select sides an A and B while, Highlanders and Bantu Rovers are playing on the virtue of being champions and runners-up,” he said.
Young Zebras will be playing Bulawayo teams as part of their preparations for a regional tournament which they are set to play host to later this year.
Mthunzi said they had chosen Zimbabwe because of proximity and the long-time relations the two nations have.
