When Bounty Lisa, real name Lynnette Lisa Museni was first introduced onto the music scene a few months ago, what was more striking about her was her tomboy appearance.
As the first lady of Conquering Family, headed by her husband Soul Jah Love, her hard core gangster lyrics, boyish dressing and tough persona lived up to the title.
In fact one could be forgiven for mistaking her for a teenage boy even after talking to her!
Fast forward to today, it is now a different story altogether as she has since had a total make over.
Those who have been bumping into the chanter at various spots can attest that she has grown a fondness to dresses, heels and lipstick.
Her latest appearance was at the Zimbabwe Music Awards last week where she was clad in a blue flowing dress, complete with red hot lipstick.
She, however, confessed that the she was struggling in the new shoes.
“A lot has happened from those tom boy days. I am now a married woman so I made the choice to alter a few things about my life. I did the makeover for myself,” she said.
Bounty Lisa added that her move to the suburbs had also played a role in the modification, saying she has even toned down even her lyrics.
“I am still the same person and still have most of my old friends. It’s just that I do not interact with them as much as I used to. I’m now based in Greendale, a suburb that is more private than where we used to stay. There is less drama here and because of that we can focus on making good music,” she said
On her inspiration, Mrs Soul Jah Love said she constantly checks on American celebrities like Beyoncé and Rihanna to get a glimpse of the international trends.
She has even stopped shopping at Mpedzanhamo and is now a regular at Avondale flea market where she said she now gets most of her outfits.
“Like I said, I only changed a few things to suit my role as a wife but I still embrace my ghetto roots. Not much is changing musically but the dressing did change and it also had me change my hair styles as well as it would not make sense to continue with those haircuts too,” she said.
Meanwhile, Bounty Lisa is working on her debut album entitled “Mangoma” that is set for release by year end.
She said although she stayed true to the dancehall style she has included songs for the modern woman and how she can sustain her family and home.
“My lyrics are clean and the upcoming album can actually be listened to by the whole family. I do feature Soul Jah Love on some of the songs. I have been performing three of the songs on the album at different shows lately,” she said.
