adminBoxer Kenneth Egano has died from injuries sustained during his bout on Manny Pacquiao’s ‘Blow by Blow’ boxing card last Saturday.
Egano, 22, beat Jason Facularin in an eight-round contest but was unable to hear his name called out as the winning fighter.
He collapsed inside the ring at the end of the fight and was given oxygen before being taken to hospital on a stretcher, where he slipped into a coma due to a brain haemorrhage.
Tragically, despite Pacquiao offering to shoulder any medical costs, Egano passed away four days after the final bout of his eight-fight professional career.
The Games and Amusements Board, who oversee professional sport in the Philippines, have since released a statement.
It read: “The entire Games and Amusements Board agency mourns the passing of professional boxer Kenneth Egano. Our condolences to Kenneth’s family, relatives and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
Facularin, who was beaten by fellow bantamweight Egano in the ring, also offered an emotional response that read: “I didn’t expect that this will happen when we did our best.
“Why did it happen to us? Sorry that it happened. I hope you’re in a good place.”
The Blow-by-Blow event, which is run by Manny Pacquiao Promotions, took place at the Imus Sports Gymnasium in Imus, Cavite.
The former eight-weight world champion had reportedly said when offering to cover the medical bill: “There is nothing more precious than human life.”
He later added: “Boxing is truly a dangerous sport and the boxers deserve nothing but respect as they put their lives on the line.
“Other sports you play, but you don’t play boxing.” – Daily Star
