THE Culture Month celebrations were officially launched by Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister, Kirsty Coventry, at REPS Theatre in Belgravia, Harare, yesterday.
The theme of this year’s celebration is Promoting Cultural Diversity, Unity and Peace.
Minister Coventry emphasised that the theme represented the different cultures in Zimbabwe and enhanced the values of peace and unity.
She hailed the support from the European Union and hoped it would continue to strengthen and capacitate the Cultural and Creative Sector in Zimbabwe.
The provincial launches would be community events where local and traditional leaders will lead activities bringing together different communities showcasing their diverse cultural offerings in one event.
“I am pleased that this being the second year of the commemorations, we will be having a full calendar month packed with activities to showcase our cultural diversity as the people of Zimbabwe.
“As a Ministry, we are pleased that Culture Month is coming at a time when Covid-19 is now behind us.
“Most of the Cultural and Creative Sector has embraced the new norm, and we hope people can also come out in their numbers to celebrate and showcase their different cultural heritages.
“We are confident that this year we will be able to host most of the events that have been scheduled with the support of the European Union as the lead partner for Culture Month.
“We hope this support will go beyond 2023 and Culture Month and spread to other activities to strengthen and capacitate the Cultural and Creative Sector in Zimbabwe,” said Minister Coventry.
