men and women categories.
The senior participants will compete from lightweight categories to heavyweight while the junior bouts start from flyweight to middleweight. Zaba technical director Petros Masiyambumbi said they have combined the tournament with the juniors due to limited resources.
“All categories are open for both female and male. The tournament is open for everyone, including the juniors.
“We don’t have light heavy weight in the juniors so they will compete up to middle weight division.
“We would have wanted the juniors to have their own competition but because of resources we are just going to have one event and we will start our assessment for the juniors that are going to the Zone Six championships to be held later this year.
“We selected eight fighters during the Youth Games held in Bindura and we want to sharpen their skills because resources will not allow us to have friendly matches with our neighbouring countries such as South Africa and Botswana, so we will utilise local tournaments,” said Masiyambumbi.
Masiyambumbi urged provinces to take part in the event as it will help them prepare their fighters for the national event scheduled for October 27 in Hwange.
“We are expecting over 100 fighters for the event because the invitations have already been sent to people and we are expecting more fighters from the defence forces because they are the national defending champions.
“It’s good for them to participate in preparation for the national championships set for Hwange,” said Masiyambumbi.
