TRAGEDY struck a Zvishavane family when a 15-year-old boy was electrocuted after touching a window frame of a tuckshop. The boy has been identified as Tafadzwa Warikanda of Maglas, Zvishavane.Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the tragic incident occurred at Number 9 Todd tuckshop in Maglas on Sunday at about 8pm.
He said Tafadzwa had visited a friend employed at the tuckshop when he met his fate.

“We suspect the tuckshop had illegal power connections and we are treating the matter as culpable homicide,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said the boy had visited his friend, Marko Gumbo, 19, who is employed at the tuckshop as a shop attendant.

Said Insp Mahoko: “While at the tuckshop, it is alleged, Tafadzwa touched the window frame resulting in him being electrocuted. The window panes were charged with electricity. The boy’s father rushed his son to Zvishavane District Hospital but the boy was pronounced dead on arrival.”

He said the matter was reported to the police who immediately attended to the scene.  Insp Mahoko said the police confirmed that the tuckshop window frames were charged with electricity  owing to illegal power connections.

He said: “The owner of the tuckshop is now being charged with culpable homicide. Investigations are still in progress. Police are appealing to members of the public to desist from making illegal connections of power as it is dangerous and fatal. It is also a serious offence.”
