Villagers in Insuza Matabeleland North province were left shocked when the body of a missing eight-year-old boy was found under water at Umguza River.
The deceased went missing last Saturday at around 12pm while he was herding cattle.
As a result community members engaged in a thorough search and discovered the body at the bottom of the river near the side where villagers fetch water.
What shocked community members and police officers is that the body was lying at the bottom of the river instead of floating on top of the water.
Contacted for a comment, the deceaseda��s father, Giya Ndlovu, who is also the village head of village 1A, expressed shock at the death of his son.
a�?My son (Ishmael) had left to herd cattle on Saturday and we were shocked to receive a message from one of the boys he was herding cattle with that he was missing. As such we launched a search for him at around midday. We found him lying underground at a spot which is about 1,37 metres deep and that is very unusual as he was not bloated,a�? said Ndlovu.
Ndlovu described Ishmael as an intelligent boy who was respectful and who could have been the torch bearer for the family.
a�?His future looked bright as such we had pinned our hopes on him as he was a brilliant student who was doing well at school,a�? he said.
Chairman of village heads and head of Child Protection Unit (CPU) Jeffrey Masuku said something should be done to exorcise the death spot.
a�?This is the second death within three months. The first incident was of a 21-year-old man who drowned last year in November and just last week onA� Saturday an eight-year-old boy drowned at the same spot,a�?said Masuku.
Masuku said in a bid to get rid of the a�?death spirita�? they would convene a meeting.
