The Meteorological Services Department yesterday said the cold spell was a result of dry and cold continental winds sweeping across the region.
The cold front would see temperatures plummeting and some areas recording severe ground frost in the morning.
“Moderate to severe ground frost should be expected, especially in frost-prone areas,” Senior Meteorological Officer, Mr Jonathan Chifuna said.
“Predominantly sunny conditions should be expected across the country with cold to very cold morning temperatures, becoming cool during the day.”
Mr Chifuna said in places such as Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare, Kwekwe, Kadoma and Masvingo, there is propensity of ground temperatures falling to as low as below three degrees Celsius overnight.
“People are also advised to put on warm clothing,” he said.
The department also advised horticulture farmers to take necessary precautionary measures to guard against frost. Some of the crops that are affected by cold weather are tomatoes, potatoes, wheat and flowers.
