“The Zimas are back with a bang! This year’s edition of the Zimas will be truly Zimbabwean, amazing and incredibly rewarding. We want to assure the nation that the show will retain its glitter and glamour or better than the Kora Awards,” Chiwanza said.
But what is it that musicians and music lovers can expect at this year’s awards show?
According to Chiwanza, a youthful businessman, Zima board has engaged the services of a South African event company which also organises the South African Music Awards.
This, Chiwanza said, would improve on the quality and standard of the Zimbabwean awards.
“It is our hope to take the awards a notch up and bring back the glamour and glitter that comes with it. We have engaged Cutting Edge from South Africa to assist us and this is not to say we don’t have the people who are qualified to do that but because we want to learn from them.
“For long our musicians have been watching from the terraces instead of being actively involved and that is what we want to change now,” the flamboyant businessman said.
The Zima organisers include chairman and founder Joseph Nyadzayo, Nhamo Tutisani, who is the chief executive, and Chiwanza.
Tutisani, who is a passionate music lover and follower, said preparations were on course and the nominee list will be availed at a later date.
Speaking about the awards, Tutisani said music lovers should expect to see something that will not only give pride in being Zimbabwean but also inspire more such shows in future.
One of the many highlights is that the show will revive competition among musicians and give credence to outstanding performers from record stables, music shops and radio stations in Zimbabwe. Secondly, the whole set-up of the show will be bigger and better in terms of performances, stage work, lighting and arrangement.
