Brazil boosts transportation

The stimulus measure will be used to finance transportation projects carried out by municipal or state governments. Some 75 cities with a population of          250 000 to 700 000 will be eligible for the funds.
Cities will submit their transportation projects for federal appraisal by the              end of August and the final list of                   beneficiaries will be released in November.
Earlier in April, Rousseff announced to inject 32 billion reais (US$16 billion) into transportation investments in large cities in 18 states.
Lack of public transportation is              considered one of the main issues            affecting Brazil’s major cities, and has also been deemed as a potential                problem for the upcoming 2013 Fifa Confederations Cup, the 2014 Fifa              World Cup, and the 2016 Summer Olympics to be held in the country. — Xinhua.
