‘Brazil delivers a third of housing target’

been delivered and another million have been contracted out for construction, the president said in her weekly radio show.

The housing project is part of a government programme entitled, “My house, my life” that aims to provide low-income households with affordable housing.

Under the programme, the government covers a certain portion of a unit’s cost, and the monthly instalments by a family on a unit are capped at 5 percent of its monthly income.

The programme targets families whose monthly household income does not surpass US$2,415.
But, according to Rousseff, most of the families benefiting from the programme have even lower monthly incomes of no more than US$773.

“That shows the programme is really helping those who need it the most,” Rousseff said. “In addition to making the dream of having a house come true, the investment we make in the construction of homes generates jobs and income for millions of Brazilians.” — Xinhua.
