Break-in at Chikurubi Farm Prison

THIEVES broke into the Chikurubi Farm Prison canteen on Sunday and got away with money amounting to over US$2 600.

The break-in was discovered by 27-year-old salesman Felix Chingwaru when he arrived for his shift after he had been alerted by his manager.

According to sources at the prison, the intruder used an unknown object to force open the canteen’s back door.

They made off with a cash box containing US$2 673, disappearing without a trace and raising serious concerns about prison security.

“Everyone, including officers and inmates, is being interrogated regarding the unlawful entry and theft,” the source reported.

The atmosphere among senior prison officials is tense, with many expressing outrage over the incident.

The matter has been reported to Highlands Police Station, where investigations are underway under case number RRB 6604817.
