BREAKING NEWS: Ex-Minister Mumbengegwi dies

Former Finance Minister Dr Samuel Mumbengegwi has died.

He died this morning at the Avenues Clinic in Harare from an unknown ailment.

At the time of his death, Dr Mumbengegwi was a lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Great Zimbabwe University in Masvingo.

The university’s vice chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo confirmed Dr Mumbengegwi’s death.

“We have just received sad news that one of our lecturers Dr Mumbengegwi has passed on. I received the news a few minutes ago from his brother. We are still waiting for details regarding funeral arrangements from the family,” said Professor Zvobgo.

Dr Mumbengegwi, who was a brother to Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, once served as Higher Education minister, Minister of Industry and International Trade before he was appointed Minister of Indigenisation and Empowerment in 2005. In 2007 he succeeded Cde Herbert Murerwa as Finance Minister.
