BREAKING: Tragedy strikes traditional ceremony, as two children die, several critically ill

POLICE in Masvingo are investigating the deaths of two children who passed away shortly after eating food and drinking traditional brew at a ceremony in Mashava on Monday.

According to police, several family members who were also present at the ceremony have been left critically ill and are receiving medical treatment.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, in a statement on X said the families gathered to partake in a traditional ceremony where they consumed sadza and mahewu.

He said soon after, attendees began experiencing severe stomach pains, leading to the unfortunate passing of two minors, aged three and seven years old.

Comm Nyathi said fourteen individuals, who include seven adults and four children, are grappling with critical health conditions resulting from their attendance at the ceremony.

The 14 are admitted at Masvingo General Hospital and Mashava Clinic.
