Learners at Bengo Secondary School in Gwanda District have been left stranded after heavy rains damaged classroom blocks and local infrastructure.

The storms, accompanied by strong winds, also caused damage to teachers’ cottages at Dryhock Primary School last night, reportedly injuring four teachers during the incident.

Acting Gwanda District Civil Protection Committee chairperson and acting District Development Coordinator, Mr Thulani Moyo, confirmed the event. He said that civil protection structures within the district have been activated to assess the number of affected institutions and homesteads and determine the extent of the damage.

“We have received reports on infrastructure that has been damaged by rains in the districts and among them is Bengo Secondary School and Dryhock Primary School. Our civil protection structures are collating information to find out how many institutions and homesteads have been affected and then will produce a detailed report,” he said.
