BREAKING: US$4 MILLION-DOLLAR ECOBANK HEIST: Cops nab suspect in Zim’s biggest bank robbery

Peter Matika
THE long arm of the law has finally grabbed one of the suspects behind Zimbabwe’s biggest-ever cash heist — the daring US$4.4 million EcoBank robbery that shook Bulawayo last year.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the major breakthrough, revealing that one suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court this morning. Details around the arrest remain tightly guarded.

The seven-man gang behind the heist pulled off the brazen job in just 149 seconds, vanishing with millions in broad daylight while banking staff and bystanders watched in disbelief.

The cash was being transferred from an EcoBank branch in Bulawayo to a security van when the armed robbers struck, in what has become the most audacious robbery in the country’s history.

As the net tightens, the nation watches closely to see who else will fall.

More details to follow.
