BULAWAYO’S streets came alive this morning as King George VI marked 68 years of championing disability inclusion with a powerful awareness march from City Hall to its centre in Khumalo.
Led by a thunderous army band, the procession drew a colourful crowd of pupils, parents, and supporters — all marching under the banner “68 Years of Ability”.
King George VI, a pioneering institution for children living with disabilities, has spent nearly seven decades offering vital services such as education, rehabilitation, and sign language training. The anniversary march was not just a celebration but a bold statement — a call for awareness, inclusion and continued community support.
“We’ve been here for years and it’s good to remind people that we are still here,” said the Centre’s Projects and Advocacy Officer, Precious Ncube.
Joining the festivities were children from King George VI, Falcon College, Christian Brothers College (CBC) and several other schools, united in backing the mission of the day.
The celebration was a moving reminder that disability is not inability.
