Brenda Ngxoli out . . . Somizi Mhlongo in

Goboza (GRB).
Sunday World can reveal that she will be replaced by colourful choreographer and actor Somizi Mhlongo.
Ngxoli is best known for her role as Vuyo in the SABC1 drama series Home Affairs, in which she did a splendid job for two years – from 2005 to 2007.
She was nominated for an International Emmy award for her role in 2007.
Now her contract with RGB, which comes to an end this month, has not been renewed. Ngxoli says she is not in a position to comment about it.
“Please call the producers of the show and the SABC. They know what’s happening,” she says.
Sources close to Ngxoli and the show have revealed to Sunday World that the producers, Urban Brew, terminated her contract after taking a decision together with their client, the SABC.
Our sources say the producers told the SABC it wasn’t easy to work with Ngxoli.
“Look, she is a nice person. She communicates and is bubbly, not a bad person at all, but the producers said her presenting skills weren’t up to scratch,” says the source.
“She’s more of an actress than a presenter. She was thrown into the deep end but managed to survive for a while.”
Many in the TV presenting world believe the crunch came when she was to present with legendary loudmouth Phat Joe .
“Phat Joe is so good and comfortable as a presenter and Somizi is funny and his interaction with people is good.
“It’s not that Brenda doesn’t interact with people, but the degrees differ,” says our source.
RGB executive producer Sydney Mahlaku says it’s not his call to renew or terminate contracts.
“SABC deals with contracts not me. I don’t know anything about contracts,” he says.
SABC head of publicity Vukile Madlala says her contract is ending soon but they know nothing about a letter informing her that it will not be renewed.
“Her contract is coming to an end but no decision has been made yet,” he says. – sundayworld.co.za
