LOCAL sungura musician, Brian Samaita, has formed a new outfit after a bulk of his band members left Murondatsimba Express and regrouped to revive once forgotten Hungwe Stars. The Weekender learnt that most of the members that constituted Murondatsimba Express were part of Hungwe Stars, another local-based sungura group led by Simba Muchita. Hungwe Stars sunk into oblivion after Muchita who was Samaita’s bassist, migrated to the Lowveld in search for greener pastures.
Muchita resurfaced later this year and revived Hungwe Stars together with guitarist Obvious Chadenga and versatile guitarist, Augustine “Oga” Malunga who is also attached to Hosiah Chipanga’s Vaparidzi veshoko.
In an interview, Samaita said the new band members will work under the same name Murondatsimba Express.
“We parted ways professionally. I now have new band members who are even more experienced and seasoned.” said the buoyant talented composer.
