Bribery bid backfires for driver

Police spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri yesterday said Nkana was expected to appear in court soon.

He said when Nkana arrived at the roadblock, he was ordered to produce a route authority and he complied.

“He produced the route authority as well as US$3 in a bid to bribe the officers and was arrested,” Supt Phiri said.

He said the money was then taken as exhibit. Supt Phiri warned the public to desist from offering bribes to police officers as they would also risk being arrested.

“This should serve as an example and we want to warn public service vehicle drivers to desist from offering bribes to police officers,” he said.
Supt Phiri applauded the officers for the arrest.
