‘ZRP doesn’t condone corruption’

Officer Commanding Administration Support Unit, Assistant Commissioner, Obert Benge said police had the adequate legal teeth to deal with corrupt police officers.

Asst Comm Benge was addressing members and officers during the Cottco Cop of the Quarter Awards ceremony, where 42 officers excelled in discharging their duties.

“We have the Police Act which we use to discipline our members if they are found on the wrong side of the norms and values of the police force. If they engage in criminal activities such as corruption, they are prosecuted and discharged from the organisation,” Asst Comm Benge. Addressing police officers, Cottco corporate communications manager, Mrs Veronica Kadandara lauded the ZRP for its sterling work in fighting crime.

“It is encouraging to note that regardless of the challenges faced by our police officers, there are men and women who are dedicated to the fight against crime,” she said. Mrs Kadandara said it was critical for the community to work together with the police.

“Communities must move away from complaining about the police, instead they must join the war against criminals,” she said.

“In the context of fighting crime, the police are the first and last line of defence. They do not only provide police related services, but they give hope to the nation.”
The police team that won the first prize recovered US$280 000 from accused persons.
