EASTVIEW residents have clashed with local brick moulders, and sand poachers, who leave deep open pits.
The residents said the two groups were also encroaching into their residence.
One of the residents, who only identified herself as Shyleen Bhunu, said the matter was now out of control.
“We are confused since we don’t know where we can report this issue so that we can get proper assistance to stop such activities.
“We are worried that precious lives, of both humans and animals, might be lost due to accidents caused by numerous open pits dug and left uncovered by brick moulders and sand poachers,” she said.
Another resident, who identified himself as Martin, said gangs of sand poachers, and brick moulders, were also threatening them with violence.
“Everyone is now living in fear, especially in Eastview Phase 12 and 15, as these people threaten us with violence when we try to warn them to stop such illegal activities.
“We ask the responsible authorities to help us cover these pits and to stop these people from what they are doing because our lives are now in danger,” said Martin.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Loice Dimbo, who appealed for the intervention of authorities.
“These people are leaving us in great danger as they invade roads and residential areas, digging deep open pits, without even thinking of rehabilitating the land afterwards.
“Everyone is at risk due to such activities but since we reported the matter to the police and EMA offices, no one has come to rescue us from such illegal activities in our area.
“We really need help from the responsible authorities,” she said.
EMA officials said they were yet to receive the complaints.
The fight against such illegal activities has been going on for years.
