BRIGADIER-GENERAL Lloyd Mutsvangwa yesterday took over command and control of the Domboshava-based Artillery Brigade from Brigadier-General Benedict Runodada, who is now the Zimbabwe National Army Brigadier-General Quartermaster Staff.

This follows other leadership changes at 1, 2 and 3 Infantry Brigades, as part of ongoing promotions and reassignments within the army.

Command exchanges are part of military traditions where commanders are reassigned from one appointment to another in accordance with organisational requirements and the broader objective of leadership development.

Such changes provide general and senior officers with exposure to diverse operational environments, broadening their professional experience and equipping them to meet evolving demands as they progress in their military careers.

Commander ZNA Lieutenant General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, who was the chief witness to the transition at Domboshava Barracks, said the army will continue to secure a stable environment in the country.

“The Zimbabwe National Army remains committed to maintaining a secure and stable environment that allows our nation to pursue its development aspirations,” he said.

Turning to conditions of service, Lt-Gen Tapfumaneyi said the Zimbabwe Defence Forces continue to engage Government through the responsible ministry to address challenges and improve the welfare of troops. The modernisation and strengthening of ZNA operational capabilities remain among key national priorities.

Lt-Gen Tapfumaneyi also noted that the Artillery Brigade has, over the years, continued to support civil-military cooperation initiatives within its area of responsibility.

Brig-Gen Runodada said it was an honour and privilege to have led the elite formation for five years, thanking the command element for the rare opportunity.

Brig-Gen Mutsvangwa said he will abide by the Constitution and is up to the task.

“This certifies that I Lloyd Mutsvangwa having sworn in allegiance to Zimbabwe and its laws conscious of the provisions of the Defence Act and its attendant regulations, having due regard to the trust and confidence which the Commander-in-Chief has in me do, today take over command of this Brigade,” he said.

The Artillery Brigade is an important component of modern armies worldwide, responsible for providing fire support capabilities to land forces during military operations.
