THINGS have not gone exactly according to plan for TelOne in this Castle Lager Premiership football season.
It has been a frustrating opening four weeks of the term for the Gweru side.
Four matches into the campaign, the Wi-Fi Boys remain win-less, as they have registered two draws and many defeats.
For a team that finished fifth last season, it is not the start that the TelOne faithful had envisaged.
TelOne have largely been inconsistent, poor at home and showing glimpses of brilliance away from home, like in the 2-2 draw against FC Platinum at Mandava.
Their coach, Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa, has, of course, owed a lot of credit to his bank based on last season’s performance.
Yet football can be so unforgiving, you never know how much balance you still have to your credit.
Already one coach has been shown the exit door in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with Thomas Ruzive parting ways with Triangle.
Maruwa is under no illusion, while acknowledging results have to start coming, he remains calm.
His Wi-Fi Boys host defending champions Scottland at Ascot tomorrow.
“I’m not under any pressure at all,” Maruwa intimated to the Zimpapers Sports Hub.
“We assembled a team for the season and not for the opening five matches, yes results have been hard to come by at home but I am confident of the team we have.
“This is my third season here, we survived relegation in the first season, finished fifth last year, and this year our target is to be better than last term.”
TelOne have been egregious for dropping points at home lately, and Maruwa insists that trend has to stop.
He revealed that they have been psyching the players ahead of the Scottland match slated for tomorrow.
“Much of it is now psychological, we have just been working on the players’ mentality, they just need to be resolute and stand their ground.
“We have prepared well for the Scottland game, we must make use of our home advantage, they are the champions but I’m positive we will get a favourable result,” Maruwa said.
