The torch to lead the Mechanised Brigade in Inkomo has changed hands with Brigadier-General Raban Nikisi taking over from recently promoted Major-General Josphat Kudumba.

Brig-Gen Nikisi was promoted on December 16, 2024 and is expected to consolidate the cordial working relations of the Mechanised Brigade, other security arms and the public in Mashonaland West province.

The two general officers signed their handover and takeover pledges before Commander Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Lieutenant-General Anselem Sanyatwe.

Lt-Gen Sanyatwe was the chief witnessing officer at the handover and takeover ceremony witnessed by several high-ranking officers from the Zimbabwe National Army, the Mashonaland Joint Operations Command (JOC) and the community among others.

Lt-Gen Sanyatwe said as founding members of the ZNA in 1980, Maj-Gen Kudumba and Brig-General Nikisi had demonstrated unflinching loyalty and dedication to promote peace and defend Zimbabwe’s territorial integrity.

“The proper and professional  command of a Brigade is an important element in building a disciplined army to guarantee national security and stability, both in which are the basis of the political, social and economic development of a nation without which it will be difficult for any nation to attract investment,”  said Lt-Gen Sanyatwe.

He implored ZNA officers to fully understand the Government’s vision for development to meaningfully contribute towards the attainment of its objectives.

Modernisation of the ZNA to effectively respond to any emerging threats, he said, was his priority.

In his acceptance speech, Brig-Gen Nikisi said he would continue to promote peace in the province as well as strengthen synergies with other stakeholders.

Displays by armoured vehicles, drills and marches in slow and quick time provided entertainment.
