ZIMBABWE’S World Boxing Council international welterweight champion, Charles Manyuchi is eyeing for glory and has cast his eyes on a title match against Britain’s WBC silver welterweight champion, Amir Khan. Speaking during the Mutare Press Club session last Saturday where he was invited as the guest speaker, Manyuchi said he was aiming at world domination in the welterweight division.

“As the international welterweight champion, I now aim on challenging the person who holds the highest title in my division (welterweight) Floyd Mayweather (Junior). My prayer is that he does not retire from boxing until I do that,” said Manyuchi.

However, before doing so, Manyuchi will have to go through the WBC silver welterweight tier stage which is currently held by Amir Khan.
In the WBC welterweight division there are three tiers, gold, silver and international.

The gold welterweight champion is currently the pound for pound king, Mayweather who recently defended his title in May against Manny Pacquiao.
Khan holds the silver title, while Manyuchi holds the international title.

Manyuchi’s publicist, Gilbert Munetsi, during the Press Club session, said Manyuchi would have to bid at the 2015 WBC biding convention set for China in November and hope for a shot at the silver welterweight title.

“At the bidding conference, Manyuchi will have to bid for a fight to upgrade into the silver tier, but the voting system is used and hopefully fate will be on his side to get a slot next year.

“If he upgrades into the silver tier, he can then challenge Mayweather in the gold tier. In boxing, after every six months you defend your title or challenge another player in the next tier, that is when he can make his move,” said Munetsi.

Manyuchi urged parents not to discourage their children from playing the sport of boxing. He said any sport children are vulnerable to injuries, so boxing is not different.
An edited 10-minute video of is fight in Italy was screened for the first time in Zimbabwe during the Press Club session.

The 26-year-old welterweight champion revealed that their family was so much in love with boxing.
His father, Otis, is a former Zimbabwe National Super-welterweight champion who retired in 1998 after having fought the likes of Joe “Breaker” Makaza, King Zaka and Fred Chisoro.

His sister, Jacquelline was also a boxer who had to gave up the sport after getting married.
Although Charles was born in Bulawayo, he grew up in Mudzi Ddistrict which explains why he represented Mashonaland East Province during the National Youth Games in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 where he won boxing gold medals each year.

During the course of the week, Manyuchi who was invited as one of the star attractions of the National Youth Games underway in Mutare, was helping out teaching aspiring amateur boxers a thing or two about the big professional boxing league.

Manyuchi is currently not only the WBC welterweight international champion, but the African Boxing Union welterweight champion and Zimbabwe National welterweight champion.
