GIFT shops around Bulawayo have expressed optimism of a brisk business this Valentine’s Day as people have already started buying presents for their loved ones.In a snap survey conducted by Business Chronicle in the city centre, people were seen buying different gifts for their loved ones as Valentine’s Day, on Friday, approaches.
In an interview, a salesperson from one of the gift shops identified as Pretty said this was one of the times during the year where they were expecting an increase in sales because everyone would be in the mood of celebrating love.
“At this time of the year, we expect a rise in sales because people are buying gifts for their loved ones and that is why we are having Valentine’s special offers,” she said.
She said February was the month of love and everyone was in the mood of spending to spoil their loved ones.
“This is the month of love and almost everyone will be expecting a gift or a present of some sort from their loved ones,” she said.
Boutiques and florists are also expecting to cash in during this time of the year.
“People have already started shopping for Valentine’s and as you can see most of our stock is red, black and white because that is what sells during this time,” said Priscillar Dube one of the local boutique operators.
She said they expected their business to boom because Valentine’s Day was different from the festive season where people have time to go out of the country to shop.
“We are expecting a boom in our business because during Valentine’s people buy their gifts and presents locally which is different with the festive season,” she said.
A number of women said they were expecting to receive gifts from their boyfriends and husbands on Friday.
“I am actually expecting a lot from my husband because on Valentine’s Day, I will be celebrating my birthday so which means I will receive more than one gift,” said one woman who declined to be named.
